Sunday, March 16th WB Reid will present two fiddle workshops at Dusty Strings:          Fiddling in Cross-Tuning -- 12:15-2:15 An introduction to the open tuning most popular in Appalachian and other traditions. Discover some of the special fingering and characteristics of cross-tuning while learning a couple of beautiful tunes. We'll also explore tips for better technique, as well as introducing Calico tuning. So that no one has to worry about their strings or instrument, we'll tune down to G-tuning rather than up to A-tuning - same tunes and fingering in both. This workshop is appropriate for anyone with at least basic fiddle or violin skills.          Midwestern Fiddle Styles -- 2:45-4:45 pm The Plains states have a distinctive tradition of dance fiddling with many fast, driving, and rather notey tunes. Students in this workshop will learn a couple of these, and work on the chordal seconding technique used by Uncle Bob Walters, the great radio fiddler from Nebraska. Also, we'll explore some tips to better technique, especially intonation, bowing, and using that all-important little finger. Appropriate for anyone with at least basic fiddle or violin skills.
